Match preview: Pools travel to league leaders

4 March 2021

Hartlepool United will be looking to build on from Tuesday night's draw at Halifax as they travel to Torquay this weekend.

Torquay United have enjoyed a long spell at the top of the National League that has stretched back before Christmas. However, the gap at the top has been narrowed with Pools just sitting three points behind their opponents this weekend.

The Gulls have had a drop in league form recently with only two wins in the last seven matches. Their most recent league result came against Solihull Moors last Tuesday with a 2-1 win at Damson Park. Asa Hall but the away side ahead after 18 mins with a penalty before Billy Waters doubled their lead in the second half. Shaun MacDonald was sent off for Torquay in the last few moments before the game before Gudger scored a late consolation for Solihull. Torquay's overall record this season stands at played 24, won 14, drawn five and lost five.

This will be the 83rd meeting between the two sides. Pools have won 28, drew 24, and lost 30 of those. One to forget for Dave Challinor's side the last time these two sides met. A 5-0 defeat in October saw Danny Wright pick up a hattrick at The Vic. However, the last time these two sides faced off at Plainmoor, Pools took all three points after a 2-1 victory and goals from Kisoso and Kennedy.
