Match preview: Pools finally head back to the Shay Stadium

11 January 2021

The final game of the trilogy between Hartlepool United and Halifax Town will finally be played out tomorrow night. Pools are looking to carry on from Saturday's win against Barnet. 7pm kick off at The Shay Stadium.

This is a rearranged fixture between the two sides as the game was postponed on January 2nd due to a frozen pitch. Pools then returned to the Shay on the 12th of January but the referee deemed the pitch unplayable one hour before KO. The game was then meant to be played on the 2nd of February but once again it was postponed due to weather conditions affecting the pitch. In the first game between the two sides, Pools were defeated on penalties by The Shaymen in the FA Trophy but redeemed themselves with a 3-1 win at The Vic on Boxing Day.

In the FA Trophy, an entertaining game for the neutrals saw Halifax take a two-goal lead in 15 minutes. Pools had to fight back twice to take the game from penalties but a miss from Donaldson and Holohan settled the tie.

One week later, Johnson, Oates and Armstrong gave Pools a 3-1 victory against the 10 men of Halifax after Bell was sent off after 70 minutes.

Most recently, Halifax beat league leaders Torquay 3-2 on Saturday. However the Shaymen only have two wins in the last seven and have recently dropped to 15th in the National League. Their current record stands at played 22, won eight, drawn six and lost eight.

This will be the 132nd meeting between the two sides with Pools winning 51, drawing 22 and losing 58. Due to last seasons early cut off, only the one fixture was played which resulted in a 2-0 defeat at the very beginning of the season in August 2019.

18 new signings came through the doors of the Shay Stadium during the summer.
