Pools sign Tom White on loan

5 February 2021

Hartlepool United are delighted to announce the signing of Tom White.

The midfielder joins us on a short-term loan deal from Blackburn Rovers.

White started his career by completing his scholarship with Carlisle United. He then joined Gateshead at the age of 18, before gaining first-team experience on loan at the likes of Spennymoor, West Auckland, Ashington, and Scarborough, where he won promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier in 2018.

A combative and ball-playing midfielder, White made over 40 appearances for Gateshead between 2017-2019 and gained international honours with England C - earning caps against Wales and Estonia.

After spending a large chunk of the 2019-20 campaign at Barrow on a temporary deal and helping the Bluebirds to promotion from the National League, White linked up with Ian Evatt for the second time in his career by joining Bolton Wanderers on loan for the 2020-21 season.

However, after featuring 14 times for the League Two side, White returned to Rovers in January 2021.

We spoke to Tom White on his move to Pools:

‘I'm obviously very excited to finally be here, I nearly signed for the club 2 years ago and being a north east lad it's always been a club I've followed with interest.'

‘It's going to be a great challenge to try and finish as high as possible and ultimately promotion. I can't wait to get working under the manager and playing for this football club.'

Manager Dave Challinor added:

‘Delighted to be able to bring Tom into the club at what is an important time for us. He's been on my radar personally for sometime and his signature coveted previously by the club.'

‘He has really good experience for his age, has been part of a successful team with Barrow last season, is a local lad having spent seasons at Gateshead and primarily from our perspective is a good footballer, with a good attitude and with a great desire to be back playing and enjoying his football.'

‘We are really looking forward to working with him and I know he can't wait to get started.'

The midfielder is available for Tuesday's match-day squad and will wear the number 19.
