Match report: Pools get a point on the road

23 February 2021

A game Hartlepool may feel three points were deserved but with neither team able to break the deadlock it finishes all square in Wales. Wrexham AFC 0-0 Hartlepool United.

Pools certainly created the most clear-cut chances throughout the game and they started the game strongly. Jamie Sterry had an effort saved by Dibble as Pools put the pressure on.

The biggest chance of the first half came after ten minutes. A ball over the top by Holohan was met by Shelton and his effort thundered off the post.

Pools continued to create chances with long range efforts from Liddle and Shelton but were unable to breakdown the Wrexham defence.

Just before the end of the first half, another chance for Pools as Johnson attacked the corner ball but his header was just over.

The second started with Wrexham applying more pressure in the attacking third as they continuously swung balls into the box. The Pools back three dealt well with any danger.

The biggest chance of the full game came on 52 minutes. A ball in behind left Luke Armstrong one on one with Dibble but the forward blazed wide.

Going into the last ten minutes it was Pools that looked the only team likely to score. Jamie Sterrys low corner went right through the box as no man in yellow was able to turn it in. Straight after Oates managed to get in behind but his fizzed ball across the box went out of play.

The game finished level here at the Racecourse Ground as Dave Challinor's men return to the Vic on Saturday against Barnet.
