Match report: Pools beaten at the Silverlake

16 February 2021

Pools were defeated 2-1 in bad conditions at the Silverlake Stadium.

A disaster start for Pools as just after 30 seconds, a mistake from Johnson and Killip allowed House to shoot at an open net and make it 1-0 to the hosts.

The pitch conditions certainly affected the game, neither team able to put together a string of passes without the ball holding up.

Despite trailing 1-0, Pools reacted well with some half decent chances. Shots on the edge of the box from Holohan and Oates tested McDonnell but the keeper collected both strongly.

On 27 minutes a long ball forward resulted in a corner. The corner was swung in and headed home by Tyronne Barnett to make it two.

Ferguson had a good chance for Pools just before the break but it was sliced wide as Dave Challinor's men went into half-time 2-0 down.

The second half started in familiar fashion as Pools tried to get the ball forward despite the conditions.

On 55 minutes the ball was crossed in by Sterry which was met by the head of Shelton but his effort was blocked.

The best two chances of the game for Pools fell both to Holohan. On 60 minutes Holohan's header was just wide from the corner. Then in the next passage of play the ball was pinballing in the box before the midfielder shot on goal and hit the cross bar.

Pools did manage to get one back right as stoppage time was announced. Once again a ball into the box was bouncing around before 17 year old Joe Grey poked it home to give Pools a little hope.

However, it was too little too late for Pools as Eastleigh took all three points. Pools next face Yeovil at The Vic.

SUBS: Grey for Cass 60', Bloomfield for Oates 65', Donaldson for Shelton 85'

Yellow: White
