Match preview: Scunthorpe visit the Suit Direct

10 December 2021

Hartlepool United are looking to extend their unbeaten streak under Graeme Lee as they welcome Scunthorpe United to the Suit Direct Stadium. Following the mid-week victory over Rochdale, Pools will be in high spirits against The Iron.

The Opposition

Scunthorpe come into the game bottom of League Two after picking up just two wins this season, though they’re just a point from safety. They’ve lost just one of their last five, drawing against Stevenage, Bradford, Leyton Orient, and Salford.

The History

Saturday will mark the 100th game between the sides. In the past, Scunthorpe have had the edge, winning 48 games, while Pools have been victorious on 30 occasions. The remaining 21 games have ended in a draw, including the last competitive match between the sides in 2014. A 0-0 draw was played out at Victoria Park with current first-team coach Tony Sweeney playing the final quarter of an hour for Pools.

Team News

After making his comeback in Wednesday’s win, Jamie Sterry will be hoping to be involved again against Scunthorpe. Joe Grey and Tom Crawford impressed off the bench again, and both will want more than a bit-part role against The Iron. Fela Olomola and Mike Fondop were absent from the bench on Wednesday, so both will have a point to provide with the new manager.
