Pools sign Luke Hendrie

30 August 2021

We are delighted to announce the signing of Luke Hendrie.

The defender joins on a permanent deal after recently leaving Grimsby Town.

This is Hendrie's second spell at Pools with the defender featuring three times in blue and white under Ronnie Moore in 2015. An ankle inury cut short his loan deal from at the time parent club Burnley FC.

Hendrie, best known for being a versatile defender having played in most positions across the backline.

The 27-year-old came through the Academy system at Manchester United, signing his first professional contract with the club in the summer of 2012. Following his release from the Red Devils, Hendrie completed a successful trial period at Derby County, eventually signing a two-year-deal with The Rams.

In the summer of 2015, Hendrie signed for Championship side, Burnley after impressing during a pre-season friendly against the club whilst on trial at Bradford City. During his time at the club, Hendrie enjoyed a number of loan spells at Pools, York City and Bradford City, with his most successful spell coming on loan at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, making  33 appearances for the Scottish club.

After making 18 appearances for Bradford City on loan, Hendrie signed for Shrewsbury Town in January 2018 where he made 10 appearances for the club, helping them reach the Sky Bet League One Play-off, eventually falling short at Wembley against Rotherham United.

Hendrie then signed for Grimsby Town in 2018 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for The Mariners before leaving at the end of last season.

Dave Challinor gave his reaction to Hendrie signing:

Luke has been training with us the last few weeks so we are delighted to get this deal done. He is a flexible player and can play in most positions across the back four or five.

He has some great experince having played in the Football League over the last 4-5 years and he brings quality in his versatility. Luke is a great assett for this team. Hopefully, over the next four months we don't need to make huge changes through injuries but bringing Luke in is a extra body who brings real quality.

Hendrie gave his reaction:

I am delighted to get this deal done. I know a lot about this club having had a short spell here a few years ago. I know the fans are fantastic and they create a great atmosphere inside The Vic.

I have been with the squad a few weeks now and the boys are brilliant. There is a great feeling around the place and I am over the moon to be a part of it.

Hendrie is available for tomorrow evenings Papa John's tie and will wear the number 27 this season.
