Match report: Pools concede late to draw with Altrincham

27 October 2020

HARTLEPOOL UNITED remain unbeaten this season, but dropped two points in a 1-1 home draw with Altringham.

Pools took the lead through David Parkhouse, but conceded an 85th minute leveller.

And in injury time, Pools' keeper Ben Killip was the hero, saving a penalty to keep Pools' record intact.

Pools started on the front foot from the off, as the pressed and probed around the visitors penalty area.

But it was 15 minutes in before keeper Anthony Thompson was tested, diving to his left to keep out a Luke Molyneux shot from the edge of the area.

Molyneux was booked on 25 minutes, after a foul on Simon Richman.

But Pools took the lead on 31 minutes, as David Parkhouse netted.

Pools moved the ball across the pitch from right to left and David Ferguson's low ball to the near post was turned in by the on-loan striker.

It was soon almost two as Molyneux's header was well pushed out by keeper Thompson.

Timi Odusina showed his turn of pace to track back and deny the advancing Fisayo Adarabioyo, but the defender was booked a minute later as the pair collided midway into the Pools half.

Molyneux was denied again by Thompson, before Gavan Holohan almost caught the keeper out with a sweeping shot from 25 yards.

Odusina was given a stern warning by referee Andrew Miller on the hour mark after a collision with Adarabioyo.

Pools then make their first change, as Molyneux was replaced by Claudio Ofosu. The visitors also altered their side, off went Hancock and on came Sutton.

After a delay in play following an injury to the visitors Richman, Pools replaced goalscorer Parkhouse with Mason Bloomfield.

Pools had a scare when a swift attack on the right saw a low cross turned just wide of the post by centre-half Ryan Johnson, who knew little about it.

Pools' keeper Ben Killip was booked, as the ball bounced up onto his arm when he came out of the area to clear.

The leveller came on 85 minutes. A corner was cleared, but the ball was returned wide, and crossed into the area, when Peers headed in from a packed penalty area.

Keeper Killip was Pools' hero in injury time as he saved a penalty. Ofosu felled Senior in the area.

Matthew Kosylo struck the spotkick firmly to the keeper's right and Killip dived to push it away.

Pools had a chance still to win it, but Ferguson's free-kick fizzed wide of the mark.

Pools now sit fourth in the National League table ahead of Saturday's visit of leaders Torquay.
