Match report: Pools ease past Yeovil

21 November 2020

A lighting first half earned Pools all three points at Huish Park this afternoon as it ended 3-1 to Dave Challinor's men.

It was certainly a first half to remember for Pools as every time they came forward, they looked likely to score.

The dream start came after just two as Oates picked out the ball for Molyneux who had the simple task to put it into an open net and make it 1-0.

Challinor's men would continue to apply the pressure and after 12 minutes, Pools should have made it two as Ferguson found himself in acres of space, he crossed into the box and Oates effort was narrowly wide.

Just two minutes later, Oates had his head in his hands as the ball once again falls to him in the box and he could only blast over from close range.

On twenty minutes it was Molyneux's turn to join the missed chances list. Molyenux cut onto his left foot and forced Smith into a close range save.

The second goal finally came for Pools on 36 minutes. As Pools attacked, the ball was volleyed into the box from Ferguson, it was deflected of the Yeovil defender which kindly fell to Holohan, the midfielder still had a lot to do to convert and calmly finished into the bottom corner.

On 43 minutes, Pools took advantage of some bad defensive errors from Yeovil. As the ball bounced around in the box, Magloire done fantastically to turn past his man and finish like a natural poacher. A great goal from the man on loan from Blackburn.

It was just about a perfect first half from Pools until one ball into the box was met by Quigley who squeezed the ball past Ravas to pull one back for the hosts. 3-1 at half time.

Yeovil came out for the second half looking to change their fortune with a continuous attack and long balls into the box.

Despite the constant pressure and Murphy having his offside effort in the back of the net, Pools defended well to stop Yeovil creating any clear cut chances.

A long ball up to Quigley was the only real response the home side had but strong performances from Magloire and Johnson especially kept any efforts out.

A great bounce back from Tuesday's defeat and Pools will look to carry on that form into next week's clash with Barnet.

Substititions: Shelton for Molyneux, Parkhouse for Oates.

Yellow cards: Molyneux (50), Crawford (65), Parkhouse (87), Holohan (90)
