Inside Dave Challinor’s Pools Regime

6 March 2020

Dave Challinor has praised his players for breaking records

in Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Solihull Moors – but immediately urged them to go

and do it all over again this weekend.

Pools sit on the brink of the National League play-off places

on the back of an excellent run of form, underlined by their dramatic midweek triumph

at Damson Park.

Aidan Keena's 86th-minute strike proved decisive

towards the end of what had been a lung-busting display from Challinor's men –

as was proven by the GPS data gathered during the game.

“We did everything we could for that win on Tuesday,”

Challinor told Pools TV, in an extended interview ahead of Saturday's home game

against Ebbsfleet United.

“I asked them to set records physically and they did that, and they got their just desserts and rewards for that.

“We have come in with scientific approach because not only isit the right way and the safe way to do it but it's the way it works.

“They can see where we're going and how we're moving forward

but any sort of statistic I come up with without back-up is just an opinion.

Without the data it's just my view and, I'll honest, sometimes my view is wrong.

“The data on Tuesday night was brilliant for us. It was the

first time we had broken a certain barrier in terms of our high intensity and

sprint work, and that's a credit to the players and it shows they can do it.

“They controlled as much as they could control and to get

that winning goal hopefully reinforces that what we're doing is the right thing

and it will continue.

“We've looked at it, and over the time we've been in if we've

hit certain markers in terms of our total distance, high intensity running and

the sprint work then we haven't lost a game.

“It's no surprise that when we're dropped below those markers

we have lost games so you have to look at the trends without looking too deeply

but what we're looking for is quite simple.

“This is a process to get the players better and get them to a level where they've got not just the technical ability but the physical ability to play higher.”
