The Result Was Everything - Challinor

8 January 2020

Dave Challinor praised his players as they recovered from a “boring”

first half to take all three points against Eastleigh at Victoria Park on Tuesday

The Pools boss was far from impressed with the tempo the

team showed during the opening 45 minutes on a night when high winds had a big

impact on proceedings.

However, goals from Gavan Holohan and Mark Shelton ensured a

crucial three points for Pools and saw them leapfrog their visitors in the

National League table.

“It was always going to be difficult because the conditions were horrible for playing football," Challinor told Pools TV.

“The result was everything because we were the only game

tonight and I think we're the only game on Saturday so it's a big opportunity for

“The first half I was annoyed because it was boring. It was

played almost like a testimonial pace; we weren't aggressive enough, we didn't

pass forward enough and we didn't try and play between the lines.

“I feel sorry for Eastleigh a little bit because they've

been decimated with injuries and lads moving so what we needed to do was show intent

and I didn't think we did that in the first half.

“Credit to them, they reacted to what was said at half-time and we were more on the front foot – it could have become a frustrating evening but in the end I thought we deserved to win.”
