Dave Challinor has challenged his players to further buildon the momentum they have built when they make the trip to Boreham Wood this weekend.
Pools have played their way back in to contention for a top
seven finish on the back of a more consistent run of form in recent weeks and
go in search of a third successive victory on Saturday.Challinor's men have nudged themselves in to a strong
position in the chasing pack and another win at Meadow Park would further galvanise
the drive to finish inside the play-off positions.“They have had a brilliant season but on Saturday if we win
we can get within two points of them,” said Challinor when he spoke to Pools TV
at Aston Villa's training ground on Friday.“We've built momentum and now we've got two big away games but
I don't think they will be defining because we could win them both and not win
again for the rest of the season.“With 11 games to go, our targets remain the same and if we
can better that then brilliant but, fundamentally, we just want to make sure we
get enough points to give us some extra games at the end of the season.“Hopefully we've turned the corner a bit and got a little
run going and we want that to continue to give us an outside shot of hijacking
the places and getting in to those play-offs.”Challinor will put aside his friendship with opposite number
Luke Garrard when the whistle blows this weekend and the business of getting
three points takes priority. The Pools boss is full of respect for the job Garrard has
done at Meadow Park but he still hopes that it's his own post-match beer which tastes
sweeter at full-time on Saturday.“We'll meet up at our hotel later on and have a chat,” herevealed.
“He will want to win and I want to win, it's as simple as that
– and we'll both be doing everything within our powers to make that happen. But
when the game finishes I'm sure we'll have a drink together.“From my perspective in particular, potentially somewhere down the line this season our paths cross again and if that's the case then we'll have been successful and achieved something – and it will be a game of an awful lot more significance than tomorrow will have.”
