Match report: Armstrong debut dream inspires Pools

8 December 2020

Hartlepool United bounced back from recent disappointing results with a convincing 2-0 win over King's Lynn at The Vic.

Dave Challinor made six changes from the side that were beaten by Boreham Wood at the weekend and his side started the game well dominating early possession.

Within the first minute Pools attacked as Featherstone played a free kick down the left to Ferguson and his cross evades everyone and hits the bar.

Just five minutes later, Joe grey, who made his first league start at the age of just 17 tried to find the opener. Rhys Oates drove into the box on the right and crosses into Grey. Some brilliant improvisation from the youngster who chests it towards goal and it ends up just wide.

After 21 minutes, the dream debut came true for Armstrong. Cass drove a great ball into the box where Armstrong hits the back of the net from close range after his first attempt is saved. A real poacher finish.

The only chance for King's Lynn came on 41 minutes as Marriott found his way into the box and strikes at goal but Ben Killip is equal to it with a good low save.

The second half started in the exact same fashion as the first as Pools dominated. Then on 51 minutes, the second goal came through that man again. Cass crossed from the right and Armstrong sticks his foot out and pokes the ball past Mair. 2-0.

The Linnents started attacking more as the second half went on and it was a head in hand moments for forward Marriott. Odusina slipped on the wet surface and Loza ran onto the loose ball before squaring to Marriott who somehow blasted wide.

Pools were able to dominate the possession and see out the second half in which in the end was a well needed, convincing performance for Dave Challinor's men. Next up, Woking away on Saturday.
