Match preview: Stockport head to The Vic

20 December 2020

Pools look to bounce back from their FA Trophy exit as the attention turns back to the league and next opponents, Stockport, who head to the Vic tomorrow night.

Stockport, who went into this season as one of the favourites to be playing in the football league next year currently find themselves in 10th on 19 points but have played three fewer games then Hartlepool. The Hatters have played ten this season, winning six, drawing one and losing three.

The Manchester-based side is on a great run of form having only been beaten once in their last seven games as a running run came to an end last Tuesday following a 1-0 defeat to Notts County.

Following last seasons finish in 7th, manager Jim Gannon brought 15 new players through the doors at Edgeley Park including two former Poolies in Mark Kitching and Macauley Southam-Hales.

Pools and the Hatters have met 136 times in total with Polls winning 48 of those, drawing 31 and losing 57. The two sides clashed twice last season with a 2-1 defeat at Edgeley Park in October 2019 but a 2-0 victory in January following goals from Keena and Shelton.

A win for Pools could take them as high as 7th with the busy Christmas schedule in full swing. Challinor's men then face Halifax on boxing day and then an away trip to Notts County on the 28th.
