We Were The Better Side - Hignett

7 September 2019

Craig Hignett said his side were punished for not taking their

chances but insisted Pools were the better side during Saturday's night's 1-1

draw with Woking at Victoria Park.

Liam Noble's penalty in first half stoppage time had Hignett's

men in sight of a fourth successive win but table-topping Woking hit back late

on with a stunning strike from substitute Paul Hodges.

Despite being disappointed with the result, the Pools boss said

he was happy with the performance and has challenged the players to start a new

winning run at Dagenham & Redbridge next weekend.

“It's two points dropped,” Hignett told Pools TV.

“When you make as many chances as we have you have to putsome of the way surely? We had about three one-on-ones didn't we?

“To only score the one is disappointing and the lads are disappointed

in there because they know they've done enough to have won the game comfortably

and haven't done it.

“Having said that, we have had to defend because they ask

you questions. They're a good side and you can see why they've got the results

they've got.

“They're moaning about the penalty and saying it was harsh

but we've had so many harsh decisions here that have cost us points so we're

due one.

“They're also moaning about the goal being onside in the

first half – it might have been, it might not have been but I'm not bothered

because we were better them and deserved the point if not all three.

“I've said to the lads that now we will start a new run. Let's go and win two, three, four, whatever it takes and let's rack up the points and keep playing with the same confidence and belief.”
