Things Didn't Click For Us - Holohan

25 September 2019

Gavan Holohan has admitted that Pools never really found

their best form on Tuesday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by

Chesterfield at Victoria Park.

The midfield man was employed in a wing-back role for the

clash with The Spireites and helped Pools take an early lead when Peter Kioso

stabbed home an opener on nine minutes.

However, it was a platform on which Craig Hignett's men

failed to build and Tom Denton nodded a leveller which knocked Pools out of

their stride and made for a scrappy second half.

“It's a bit frustrating,” he told Pools TV.

“I thought we were pretty good for the first half an hour

and if we had got that second goal we could have gone on and won by three or

four.

“We had good phases of play and momentum was with us but we

didn't get the second goal and then when they scored it was a bit of a sucker

punch and we couldn't get ourselves going again.

“We didn't have that cutting edge and I don't think that was

for the want of trying – we all put in a shift but it just didn't click for us

in the second half.

“That happens, and if you don't play at your best then you've got to make sure you don't lose the game.”
