Craig Hignett hailed his players as Pools made it three wins on the spin at Barrow.
Skipper Ryan Donaldson, recalled to the starting eleven after helping to set up Saturday's second goal in the 2-1 victory at Torquay, went from provider to match-winner at a rain-swept Holker Street.
Put clear by Gime Toure, the 28-year-old never looked like missing as he coolly slotted past Joel Dixon from the edge of the area 20 minutes from time.
However, it was an incredible effort by the whole Pools side who repelled a lively home outfit to move up to eighth ahead of Saturday's televised clash with joint leaders Woking at Victoria Park.
"I'm delighted," declared Hignett.
"It was a tough game, Barrow are a good side. To come here and win with a clean sheet is no mean feat.
"I thought our work-rate and discipline were excellent, especially in the second half. The lads had to dig in, but that's what you have to do in this league.
"It took us a while to get to grips with them, they had a lot of the ball, Ben has made a good early save and kept out two long-range shots but, bar those, I'm not sure he's really had a save to make."
Barrow might have had the better of the play but Pools did what mattered and put the ball in the net.
Donaldson had been unable to convert a first-half opening but he was as cool as a cucumber on 71 minutes.
"When we had the ball it always looked like we could do something," added Hignett.
"Ryan had a one-on-one in the first half he'll be disappointed not to have put away. But we knew we'd get a chance to open them up - Ryan's had a lot of time to think about it but he's finished superbly."
It was another memorable away day for the 194 Poolies who braved a foul night in Cumbria to cheer their side to victory.
"I was so pleased we put in a performance for them," added the manager.
"Our supporters were fantastic - they always are - travelling in their numbers on a horrible night and I'm glad we got the result for them."
