Youth Team Hit Seaham For Seven

4 October 2019

Pools Youth Team made a safe passage in to the next round ofthe FA Youth Cup as they won 7-0 at Seaham Red Star on Thursday night.

Ian McGuckin's youngsters were in irresistible form and scored some mouth-watering goals during the rout, which is sure to boost confidence levels going back in to their league campaign.

The emphatic result saw has set up an away tie in the next phase of the prestigious competition when they will travel to Stockport County.

It was 1-0 inside six minutes when Joe Grey did well down

the right and his low ball across found Aaron Willoughby who skilfully turned

away from the defender to finish low inside the right-hand post.

Keaton Sturdy made it 2-0 not long afterwards when he made a

determined run towards the edge of the home side's box before sending a

clinical low drive in to the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Coleby Shepherd then showed great imagination to clip a ball

in behind the Seaham defence for Jack Leonard who cleverly cut inside on his

right foot to fire in a third goal on the half-hour mark.

Grey then started and finished a lovely team move to make it

4-0 eight minutes later; the young front man drove forward menacingly and the

ball was then worked out to Kyle Wilson who played a one-two with Leonard

before slipping a low cross along the six-yard line to the waiting Grey.

Adam Campbell then took matters in to his own hands with a

brilliant run from the halfway line, driving between three Red Star defender

before applying a clinical finish to make it 5-0 before break.

Willoughby's direct running was a threat all night and he

caused more problems just before the hour-mark when he linked-up wonderfully

with Grey before side-stepping across a defender and slotting home his second

of the night to make it 6-0.

The home side continued to show spirit and determination,

which meant Pools had to wait until six minutes from time to celebrate their

seventh goal – this time Leonard cleverly moved the ball on to his left foot

twenty yards from goal to deliver a stunning finish in to the top corner.
