Pools Stars Visit School To Surprise Fans

3 October 2019

There was an assembly with a difference at English Martyrs

School last week as Pools stars Jason Kennedy and Michael Raynes dropped in to

surprise two dedicated members of staff.

Deputy Head, Paul Dickson, got in touch with the Club to let

us know about the tireless work carried out by Site Manager, Mick Dempsey and

his assistant Ryan George as they moved to a brand new building in recent

months.

Mick and Ryan are both massive Pools fans so we decided to

send a couple of players along to help the school and its pupils pay tribute to

their efforts in a special assembly.

“At English Martyrs, we've just taken the keys to a brand

new building so we're starting an exciting new chapter – but it is also the end

of a gruelling and tiring time for the staff,” Deputy Head Paul explained.

“Mick, who is due to retire soon, and Ryan have shown

superhuman commitment to work every hour of every day for the last eight weeks

to get equipment we needed from the old building over in to the new one.

“Like me and lots of the other staff here, Mick and Ryan are

both Pools daft Season Ticket holders so we wanted to do something a little

special to recognise their efforts and show our appreciation.

“We called an assembly for our Year 7 pupils and told Mick

and Ryan that they needed to come along because we were going to be doing a

talk on keeping the school tidy – but really it was to surprise them with the

visit from Jason and Michael!

“It was brilliant to see their reaction when they realised

and I want to thank the lads for coming along straight from training to help us

pay tribute to our unsung heroes at the school.”

The two Pools stars presented some gifts to Mick and Ryan

before they were given a massive – and well-deserved - ovation from the

gathered pupils.

“We were delighted to go along and help the school say thankyou,” said Raynes.

“The new school is looking absolutely outstanding and plenty

of that is down to the hard graft that Mick and Ryan have put in over the last

couple of months.

“It was a pleasure to meet everyone there and we wish themboth all the best, particularly Mick as he enjoys his well-earned retirement.”
