Craig Hignett paid tribute to the character and belief of

his players after they recovered from conceding an equaliser to grab a

last-gasp winner against Yeovil Town.

The Glovers arrived at Victoria Park on the crest of a wave,having won seven games in a row to move third in the National League table.

However, Pools employed an aggressive 3-4-3 formation which

didn't give their visitors any space to breathe and they got their rewards

early in the second half when Gime Toure pounced to put them 1-0 up.

Hignett's men were forced to defend more as the game wore on

but it wasn't until the final seconds of normal time that Yeovil grabbed a

leveller through Rhys Murphy to silence The Vic.

But just two minutes later, Jason Kennedy got on the end of

a wonderful move from the left to bundle home his second of the season and hand

Pools a dramatic injury-time win.

“I thought we were really good,” Hignett told Pools TVafterwards.

“The belief that they showed after conceding a goal so latelike that was superb – it would have been easy to fold after that but they didn't.

“They showed incredible belief to go and get the winner, and

it was nothing that they didn't deserve because it was a really good

performance and once which stifled what Yeovil do.

“We've been banging on all week about getting in the middle

of the goal when crosses come are coming in and we've scored two goals from

that.

“Gime was in the right place at the right time for his goal

and it set us up nicely for the second half but we still had to be vigilant and

defend well and the back three were magnificent.

“I felt like I had been battered in the guts when they scored, it was devastating. But the character of the lads is not in question – they had the belief they had go and win it and it would have been a travesty if they hadn't.

“Jason Kennedy was sensational from his tackling to his

covering to his keeping the ball to his getting around the pitch but then he

does what he does to arrive right on time for a tap-in – since he's been at the

Club he's been outstanding.

“I know we have good players here and I know we've had an up and down season where we've drawn too many games. We're still not a million miles from the play-offs and I know we'll get better.”
