Dave Challinor praised his side's character after seeing
them come from two goals down to claim a point against Boreham Wood at Victoria
The new boss was staring down the barrel of a defeat in his
first game in charge when the visitors went 2-0 up thanks to a first half
penalty from Sorba Thomas and a second half strike from Kabongo Tshimanga. However, a bullet strike from Nicky Featherstone twenty
minutes from time restored hope before Gime Toure scored from the spot twelve
minutes later to make it 2-2.“We showed signs of real resilience and determination,”Challinor told Pools TV.
“Ultimately, goals will change games, particularly here at The Vic and we spoke before the game about moments which keep the crowd in it and get the atmosphere going.
“The fans were brilliant to stay with us when we went 2-0down because there is obviously expectation and we have to deal with that.
“Thankfully we got back to 2-2 by the end and on another day
we could even have nicked it but at least we sent the fans home a little
happier than they were with twenty minutes to go.“Boreham Wood are a handful and the five attacking players have
pace, good movement and they play with a high intensity – for the first ten
minutes we didn't start and we didn't deal with it.“At half-time we were critical because we had good chances
that we should have scored but we were behind so the first ten minutes of the
second half were going to be important – and then we concede again.“The substitutions made a difference, the lads came on and had an impact. We had to gamble and chance our shape, and it's all credit to the players to keep on going and get a point we didn't look like getting.”
