Work Begins On Super 6 Stadium Pitch

2 May 2019

The first real sign of the summer arrived at The Super 6 Stadium on Thursday as work began to renovate the Club's playing surface.

After hosting several events on the pitch since the end of the season, including Sunday League and Schools FA Finals, the redevelopment project started early on Thursday morning.

As usual, many hours will go in to ensuring that Craig Hignett's men have another perfect pitch to play on when they return to National League action in August.

“They're stripping the top off today and I expect they will finish that late tonight or in the early hours of the morning,” explained Head Groundsman, Dave Brown.

“If that is completed on time then Friday will be all about seeding it and then laying down around sixty tonnes of sand dressing.

“Then it will be a case of hoping we get some good weather – ideally we want it warm and damp so if it could be 20 degrees with the odd shower here and there that would be perfect!

“It should take around a month and then we'll start to see the pitch shaping up for the new season.

“I was fairly happy with how the pitch performed during the last season, though we didn't really have a big winter to test it, so hopefully myself, Karl, Ian and the team can ensure it's just as good for the players in 2019/20.”
