In freezing cold conditions at half time against Dover Athletic, we played the first quarter final of the Wheels Self Drive Penalty Competition.
First up was Clavering vs St Johns.
Clavering had beaten St Josephs (Billingham) on sudden death in the first round back in December and St Johns’ had run out comfortable winners against St Aidan’s so we were expecting an exciting and closely-fought tie and we were not disappointed.
After all five players on both teams had taken their penalties the score was level at 2-2 so we went into sudden death with Clavering winning 3-2 overall.
Next we had St Helen’s vs Rossmere.
In their previous fixtures St Helen’s had beaten Brougham 3-1 and Rossmere had defeated Ward Jackson 2-1.
St Helen’s put on an exceptional performance scoring 4 of their 5 penalties with the game finishing 4-1 in their favour.
All players did fantastically in very difficult conditions (you can see by the photos how cold they were!) and as always were a credit to their schools.
Thank you to HUFC and Wheels Self Drive for their support of the competition as well as the fans for their encouragement.
Clavering and St Helens will now face each other in the semi-finals on 6th April.
The second quarter finals will take place on 23rd March:
Greatham vs West Park
St Begas vs Eldon Grove
