David Edgar has been called up by Canada for their decisive Concacaf National League qualifying match against French Guiana on Sunday 24th March.
The 31-year-old is part of the 23-man squad named by coach John Herdman for their crucial upcoming fixture to be played at VC Place in Vancouver.
Edgar and his Canadian teammates know they need to beat French Guiana to guarantee their place in both the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup and Group A of the 2019/20 Concacaf National League.
If the centre-back plays in the game he will become only the second player to win an international cap whilst on the books at Pools after Ambrose Fogarty starred for the Republic of Ireland in 1964.
“Every game you play at home is special, but this game has the little something extra as the result could really shape the destiny for Canada,” explained Herdman.
Edgar will travel to Canada to link-up with the squad immediately after this Saturday’s National League game against Barnet and will miss Pools encounter with Wrexham on Saturday 23rd March.
