We turn our attentions to Saturday’s action with a full and in-depth preview of Dover Athletic’s visit to The Super 6 Stadium.

Pools v Dover Athletic
National League
Saturday 9th March 2019, 3pm
The Super 6 Stadium

In Opposition
Having won just once in their opening 18 National League games this season, Dover Athletic fans could have been forgiven for being pessimistic about their chances of surviving the drop.

However, the return of Andy Hessenthaler for his second spell as Athletic boss in October as well as an influx of new players sparked a remarkable upturn in fortunes at Crabble Athletic Ground.

The Whites seemed doomed after collecting just seven points prior to Hessenthaler’s appointment but their improved form sees them arrive in the North East this weekend outside of the relegation zone.

Dover have a four-point cushion above the bottom four but will know they still have work to do in the closing months of the campaign to complete their escape from danger.

Star Player
Mitch Brundle has been a virtual ever-present for Dover this season and the skipper is going to be crucial when it comes to ensuring they successfully complete their fight for survival.

Comfortable in defence or midfield, the whole-hearted 24-year-old rarely misses a game and has become a huge favourite since arriving at the club in the summer of 2017.

Brundle leads by example on the pitch and is capable of chipping in with goals, having found the net half a dozen times this term, and he will be a key factor once again when Dover visit Pools this weekend.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be just the fourth competitive meeting between the clubs and Dover Athletic have won each of the three previous encounters.

The Whites are looking to complete a National League double over Pools for the second successive season following their 2-1 triumph at Crabble Athletic Ground back in November.

Lloyd Wood will make his first visit to The Super 6 Stadium this weekend when he referees our contest against Dover Athletic.

The first-year National League official has overseen 14 games at this level during his debut campaign and was last on the whistle for Gateshead’s 2-0 win at Aldershot Town last Saturday.

Wood has presided over The Whites twice already during 2018/19 and both games have finished in draws – a 2-2 with Sutton United in September and a 0-0 with Leyton Orient in December.
