The news comes as part of an annual review and selection
process, which now sees Michael revealed as one of only two umpires promoted to
the prestigious panel for the new campaign.A selection panel of ICC General Manager Geoff Allardice,
former player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar and referees Ranjan Madugalle
and David Boon made the decision to elevate Michael and his colleague Joel
Wilson.Since hanging up his football and cricket boots to pull on
the white jacket, Michael has gone on to officiate in no fewer than nine Test
Matches, 59 One Day Internationals and 14 T20 Internationals.“Being an elite official is an extremely challenge job,”admitted Adrian Griffith, ICC's Senior Manager for Umpires and Referees.
“Every decision is scrutinised by millions of fans and each
match official is subject to a rigorous ongoing performance assessment
throughout the year.“We are fortunate enough to have some fantastic officials
who are able to withstand the pressures of the job and deliver consistently on
the international stage.“Michael and Joel are deserving additions to the Emirates
ICC Panel of Umpires and I wish them all the best for the coming season and for
the future.”And Michael certainly knows how he will be celebrating the
