Pools produced a powerful performance and scored three second half goals to enjoy a comfortable home win over Macclesfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
Craig Hignett's men were in control for the majority of the contest against Sol Campbell's visitors and there were plenty of encouraging signs for the Pools boss during an entertaining encounter.
Pools had a chance to get their noses in front really early on when Gime Toure turned the visiting defence inside out with a twisting run before being tripped in the box but the front man fired the resultant penalty over the bar.
Niko Muir was linking play up well and could have helped himself to the opening goal when he spun swiftly on the right edge of the area but his well-struck shot kissed the top of the bar on its way over.
Toure had a great chance after being picked out at the far post by a left-wing corner; he had time to take a touch before seeing his shot blocked and when he then laid the ball back across to Muir, his fellow front man's effort was headed off the line.
Macclesfield responded by coming close twice themselves as the half wore on; first a long-distance strike looped wide by a Nicky Featherstone deflection before a dipping free-kick was wonderfully tipped on to the bar by Ben Killip.
Gavan Holohan was first to try his luck after the break when he struck a thunderous shot on goal from thirty yards which stung keeper Owen Evans' hands and stayed out.
Some delightful build-up involving Holohan, Muir and Kabamba opened up the visiting defence but they recovered to clear the ball behind and then Toure headed the resultant right-wing corner wide.
The first goal finally arrived just before the hour mark after more great build-up play from Holohan and Muir, who combined to find Featherstone and his low shot took a slight deflection before squeezing past the keeper at his front post.
It was 2-0 ten minutes later when substitute Luke James drove infield from the right and exchanged passes with Kabamba before darting in to the area clipping a lovely cross to Toure who turned it home with a neat volley.
A sustained period of pressure on 81 minutes lead to a third goal; Holohan and Aaron Cunningham both saw headers cleared off the line before Featherstone kept the move alive with a fine clipped ball back in to the area where Michael Raynes headed it home from close range.
