Josh Hawkes Set To Miss Start Of Season

20 July 2019

Josh Hawkes looks likely to miss the start of the new National League season after the midfielder was injured right at the end of Saturday's friendly with Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old had come on as a second half substitute against The Blades but pulled up right on the final whistle and he now looks certain to be ruled out until the middle of next month.

“He's gone to try and sprint and he's felt his hamstring go,” Craig Hignett revealed.

“It looks as though he's going to be out for three or four weeks, which is a blow for us.

“He's a young lad who has a load of potential so we're really disappointed that we'll be missing him.”

Hawkes is the second player this week to have picked up a pre-season injury after Luke Molyneux was hurt during the first half of Wednesday's game at York City.
