Carl Magnay Leaves Hartlepool United

8 July 2019

The Club can now announce that Carl Magnay has left Hartlepool United following the expiry of his contract.

Magnay joined Pools in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 120 appearances for the Club, mainly at right-back but also in the centre of defence and midfield when required.

The 30-year-old also scored five goals for Pools, including a memorable left-foot curler at Crewe Alexandra in August 2016 and a sensational long-range drive at Barrow in March 2018.

Magnay was installed as Club Captain for the 2017/18 campaign and also wore the armband for a section of the past season following Andrew Davies' departure.

“Carl has been a brilliant servant to the Club,” said boss Craig Hignett.

“During my two spells here as Manager he's been spot on – a great professional on and off the pitch who looked after himself well and was everything you'd want in a player, he was top class.

“He's a good lad who always gave his all and never shirked anyting – and he's had to put up with his fair share of setbacks over the years.

“I am sorry to see him go but he's been a pleasure to work with so we wish him well in whatever he does next and he knows he will always be welcome back at the Football Club.”
