We take a look at the numbers when it comes to being at home or away on the opening day, final day and Boxing Day over the years ahead of Fixture Release Day on Wednesday.
Pools will be hoping to start the new season on home turf for the fourth time in five years, with last term’s visit to Maidstone United the first time we’d kicked-off on the road since 2014/15.
The recent trend of being at home on Day One is not something which he have become used to over a wider period – prior to 2015 we’d opened up at The Vic just twice in the previous nine seasons.
Indeed, in the 24 seasons between 1995/96 and 2018/19 Pools have started away from home 14 times and been on home soil on just 10 occasions.
The stats get even worse when you cast your eye to the final day of the season – last term was only the third time Pools have finished a campaign at home in the last 12 years!
Going back to 1995/96, Pools have been away on the last day 18 times and at home just six times – no wonder the fans have taken to wearing fancy dress to celebrate!
So that means we’re probably at home all the time on Boxing Day, right?
We’ve only played at The Vic on Boxing Day ONCE since 2007/08 – our 2016/17 Boxing Day defeat to Blackpool was the first we’ve hosted since drawing 1-1 with Leeds on Wednesday 26th December 2007.
In fact, between 2008/09 to 2014/15 we were away from home each and every Boxing Day – and then when we were finally handed a home game in 2015/16 it was postponed due to bad weather!
