John Hewitson and Ian McGuckin will take charge of the Pools squad for Tuesday night’s Durham County Challenge Cup tie against Darlington at Blackwell Meadows (7.30pm kick-off).

The tie will be used to give game time to several First Team players, with the likes of Josh Hawkes, Peter Kioso, Paddy McLaughlin, Niko Muir and Conor Newton all expected to feature.

Pools have enjoyed solid victories over Sunderland Westend and Ryton & Crawcrook Albion to make the Third Round of the competition and Hewitson hopes they can make further progress at the expense of their local rivals.

“I think the opposition being who they are will add a little more importance,” admitted Hewitson.

“I am sure the fans will want to see passion from the players and they will want us to win the game so that’s what we will be going there to do.

“We want to get through to the next round so that’s the priority because we’d like to go as far as we can and even win the competition if we can but it will be a good test for the players.”

Tickets will remain on sale to Pools Season Ticket holders until 3.30pm on Tuesday but there will be no availability at the ground ahead of kick-off.

We’ll be providing updates from Blackwell Meadows on Twitter from 7pm and we’ll also be able to provide highlights from the game on the Official Website on Wednesday.
