Richard Money has completed a hat-trick of Friday signings with the arrrival of highly-rated winger Luke Molyneux on loan from Sunderland for the rest of the season.
The talented 20-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Gateshead and played in both games against Pools over the Christmas period.
Molyneux, who is blessed with a great left foot, has been on the books at The Stadium of Light since he was an Under-16 and was a regular for the Club’s Under-23s last term.
His form earned him several call-ups to the senior squad and he made his First Team debut for The Black Cats when he started in their 3-0 win over Wolves on the final day of 2017/18.
After a handful of substitute appearances at the beginning of the current campaign, he was allowed to leave on loan and he went on to impress at The International Stadium, scoring three goals in 18 appearances.
However, the Durham-born wide man was recalled to Wearside following his New Year’s Day outing against Pools and played a part in Sunderland’s 4-0 win over Newcastle United in the Checkatrade Trophy last week.
Now Pools boss Money has persuaded Sunderland to part with the young star once again and he has moved to The Super 6 Stadium for the remainder of the season.
“We’re very pleased to bring Luke in to the Football Club,” said Money.
“We’ve been working on it for a couple of weeks now and we’re pleased we’ve been able to get it done with Sunderland and with Luke.
“I think he can come in and give us something different to what we currently have.
“He has a great left foot and the one thing people will have seen in his game is the quality of his delivery from set-pieces so we’re delighted to add him to the squad.”
Molyneux has been handed squad number 21 and will now go straight in to contention for a debut in Saturday’s televised game against Harrogate Town at The CNG Stadium.
