We turn our attentions to Saturday’s action with a full and in-depth preview of AFC Telford United’s visit to The Super 6 Stadium.
Pools v AFC Telford United
FA Trophy Second Round
Saturday 12th January 2019, 3pm
The Super 6 Stadium
AFC Telford United have emerged as strong contenders in the race for promotion from National League North on the back of an excellent run of form from Christmas in to the New Year.
The Bucks have won four in a row ahead of their first-ever trip to The Super 6 Stadium this weekend and that sequence of results has seen them move up to fourth and just five points behind leaders Chorley.
Manager Gavin Cowan has also been given the green light to strengthen his squad in recent weeks too and the arrival of Marcus Dinanga on a permanent deal has really excited supporters – though the former Pools loan man is cup-tied this weekend having played for us at Leamington.
The Shropshire outfit have already defeated Darlington and Farsley Celtic on their way to the Second Round of the FA Trophy and set up their meeting with Pools.
The Bucks beat off competition from several clubs to land the signature of highly-rated forward Daniel Udoh during the summer and he was in double figures before the end of September.
A strong and powerful centre-forward, Udoh was born in Nigeria but moved to the UK aged 9 and was then nurtured by Luton Town and Stevenage before really making his name at Ilkeston.
His form in front of goal there earned him a move to Crewe Alexandra where he scored on his debut but was then loaned out to Leamington where he continued to find the net regularly.
Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.
Simeon Lucas will make his first visit of the season to The Super 6 Stadium though he did take charge of four Pools games last term.
His first visit to Hartlepool came last August for our 2-0 defeat to AFC Fylde, while he was also on the whistle for our 0-0 draw at Boreham Wood in November 2017 and our 3-2 triumph over Woking last February and our 1-1 draw with Torquay United in February.
Lucas has now moved in to his second campaign on the National League’s list of referees and his most recent outing came at Wrexham last Saturday when he oversaw Dover Athletic’s surprise 1-0 victory.
If Saturday’s game ends in a draw then the tie will go to a replay which is scheduled to take place at New Buck’s Head this coming Tuesday evening.
As in the National League, clubs are permitted to name five substitutes on their bench and a maximum of three of these can be used on Saturday.
Brian Honour is back alongside Mark Simpson for full live commentary of Saturday’s game against The Bucks on Pools PlayerHD from 2.50pm.
We bring you full live online coverage of every game throughout the season so if you can’t get along then Pools PlayerHD is the next best place to follow the action.
We’ve reduced ticket prices for Saturday’s game to just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions – these will be available both in advance and on the day as detailed below.
Fans can purchase tickets in advance from The Super 6 Stadium Ticket Office which is open from 12noon until kick-off on Saturday.
We’ll also be opening a Matchday Ticket Office behind the EDC Neale Cooper Stand at 1.30pm for fans to go along and buy their tickets.
Pools are 8/13 favourites to win the tie on Saturday, with visitors AFC Telford United rated a 4/1 shot for victory and bookies reckon it’s a 13/5 shot for the game to go to a replay.
