Pools have agreed a deal to bring in former Hull City midfielder Gavin Holohan on a short-term deal until the end of the 2018/19 season, subject to international clearance.

The 27-year-old has impressed boss Craig Hignett after joining Pools in training recently and he will now remain with the Club for the remainder of the campaign.

Irishman Holohan began his career in the youth system at Kilkenny before being picked up by Hull in 2008 where he spent the next four years, captaining the Youth Team.

Upon his release, he joined Alfreton Town for a short spell but returned to Ireland in 2013 to sign for Drogheda United where he was a regular scorer from midfield and earned a move to Cork City.

Following a two-year stint with Cork, Holohan has also spent time in the colours of Galway United and Waterford but is now ready to test himself in English football once again.

“Gavan is a box-to-box midfielder with plenty of energy,” explained Hignett.

“We’ve liked what we’ve seen in training since he came in and he’s a good character who is very hungry for the opportunity.

“The deal we’ve done means we’ve given him the platform to impress us over the next couple of months with a view to next season.”

Holohan has been handed squad number 14 but the Club is still awaiting the necessary international clearance which is needed before he can make his Pools debut.
