Hartlepool United Community Sport Foundation this week held its very first girls-only soccer course.
The course, which was held at Northfield Sportsdromes in Billingham, was open to girls aged between 5 and 12 years old.
And the response to the course was impressive, with over 35 girls attending each day – which was even more impressive as it rang alongside HUCSF’s regular mixed soccer course in Hartlepool.
Lewis Hawkins and Josh Hawkes popped in on Thursday after training to give the girls some advice and take part in some friendly competition.
They took turns in goal whilst the girls took penalties against them and then they each took control of a team to manage in a variety of different games.
“We are delighted to be able to offer this coaching session dedicated to girls – not that they can’t compete with the boys!” HUCSF Coach Vicki Burton commented.
“Myself, Paige and Chris are all experienced girls team coaches. It shows how far ladies football has come that there is such demand for a girls-only course.
“This is definitely something we will be looking to do again in the future so keep an eye out in the next school holidays.”
