We Showed A Bit Of Menace - Hignett

26 August 2019

Craig Hignett was delighted to see his side record their

first home win of the season as they came from a goal down to defeat Wrexham

4-2 at Victoria Park.

The Pools boss said the three points were good reward for

the character shown by the players after a deflected goal had put the visitors

in front five minutes before the break.

Gime Toure nodded Pools level almost immediately and then

Liam Noble scored a quick-fire brace in the second half before Toure added his

second to make the points safe.

“Today was different from Saturday – I think we showed a bitof menace,” Hignett told Pools TV.

“Going a goal down is obviously something we're familiar

with here but the lads weren't fazed. The goal was fortuitous with the

deflection but the lads just got on with it.

“They kept on going and they got their rewards with some

really good goals. We kept a really good shape, we had a game plan and it

worked well.

“We came out flying in the second half and getting the early

goal helped and then the third quite quickly afterwards – that's what Liam can

do, we freshened it up today and he came in and did that.

“We had to dig deep when they got a goal back but the

sending-off changed the game in our favour – or it should have done but I don't

think we used it as well as we could have done.

“Playing against ten you just have to keep the ball and it's

about shutting the game down and seeing it through; it was professional and we

did the job.

“Overall I am pleased with the performance and the result but I have said to the lads that this can't be another false dawn.”
