In Review: The Vanarama First Fortnight

21 August 2019

League sponsors Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far - and what's ahead!

The Season Up To Now...
It's not been the start anyone at Hartlepool wanted after three defeats in their opening five games. But with 41 games still to go, there's plenty of time yet!

Craig Hignett's Take...
Craig Hignett is confident his team will begin to produce the goods, saying, “I've got belief in what we are as a team and what we can do.”

Stand-Out Result...
With expectations high, Pools' first win was always going to be an important one. Momentarily, things looked up as they came away from Maidenhead's York Road with three points on the board.

Star Signing...
Summer singing Gime Toure has shown glimpses of what could be to come in his time at the Club. A brace against AFC Fylde took him to a tally of three as he looks to form a partnership with Niko Muir in Hignett's front two.

Stat Attack...
League position: 20th
Home goals for: 5
Away goals for: 1
Home goals against: 8
Away goals against: 2
Top scorer: Gime Toure (3)

Terrace Talk...
Joe (@jb4pools) was in no mood for negative comments. He wrote on Twitter, “think [Hignett's] got our attacking midfield and front players playing the most exciting stuff for a while.”

“We have good players to come back. So chill,” wrote Mark

(@markrichardwood) after Saturday's reverse to Bromley. Always look on the

bright side!

On The Horizon...
It's a visit to Chorley for Pools. Jamie Vermiglio's side will be hurting after a tough time of late has seen them slump to second bottom. They'll be looking for a response – their last home game was a 6-1 thumping against Solihull Moors.

Look Out For...
Chorley fans' favourite Courtney Meppen-Walters the classic tough-tackling defender who is just as handy in both boxes.

We've Got History...
Just one previous encounter between the two - Hartlepool triumphed in an FA Cup clash way back in 1987 away from home. A good omen?
