Preview: Barrow v Pools

21 April 2019

We turn our attentions to Easter Monday's action with a full and in-depth preview of our National League trip to Holker Street.

Barrow v Pools
National League
Monday 22nd April 2019, 3pm
Holker Street

In Opposition
Barrow come in to Monday's fixture at Holker Street sitting 11th in the National League table following a run of just two defeats in their last eight outings.

An impressive hat-trick of wins at the beginning of March gave The Bluebirds a sniff of reaching the play-offs, but they've not tasted victory again since to drop back in to mid-table.

Ian Evatt oversaw a big turnover in players during the summer, underlined by the fact that not one of the Barrow team Pools faced at Holker Street last March were in their line-up at Maidenhead United on Friday.

After drawing 0-0 at The Super 6 Stadium earlier this season, Pools make the trip to Cumbria knowing they can leapfrog their hosts in the table if they win there for a second year in succession.

Star Player
Front man Jack Hindle has top-scored for Barrow this season after joining the club from Colwyn Bay during the summer.

The 24-year-old has hit the net three times in his last six games, including one in the 1-1 draw at Maidenhead United on Good Friday.

He's a man in form so Pools will need to ensure they keep a close eye on him during the Easter Monday encounter at Holker Street.

Head To Head
Monday's game will be the 89th time that these two teams have met in competitive action and Pools have the edge historically having won 36 games in comparison to Barrow's 32 triumphs.

Pools did the double over The Bluebirds last term but were held to a goalless draw when the Cumbrian outfit visited The Super 6 Stadium back in September.

Last season saw the renewal of the two clubs rivalry after a gap of almost 50 years but games between Pools and Barrow stretch as far back as 1921/22 and the old Division Three (North).

Referee
Rebecca Welch will referee Pools for a second time this season when she's on the whistle for our Easter Monday trip to Barrow.

Having proved herself at National League North level, Welch made the step up to join the National League's list of referees at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

Welch, who refereed the 2017 Women's FA Cup Final, was in charge for our home win over Braintree Town in January and she has already overseen Barrow three times this term.

Her most recent appointment came in the early part of February and was also at Holker Street when she presided over The Bluebirds' 1-1 draw with Bromley.
