Pools are set to backed by a gallant and brave army of fans at Barrow on Easter Monday after a Medieval Knights theme was revealed for this year’s final day fancy dress!
It has become a well-known annual tradition for Pools supporters to travel in synchronised fancy dress to the final away game each season.
Whether it be Smurfs or Oompa Loompas at Charlton, Penguins at Crawley, Where’s Wallys at Brentford, Stormtroopers at Plymouth or Clowns at Tranmere – Pools fans never fail to impress.
And the finale to the 2019/20 season looks likely to be another eye-catching display, as a potential army of over 1,000 Medieval Knights descend on Holker Street on Monday 22nd April.
In a nod to St George’s Day – which is the next day – a fearless band of Knights will travel to Cumbria in a bid to be right and good against any evil and injustice!
“To take over 1,000 fans to Barrow for an end of season game with nothing really at stake is unbelievable,” admitted Poolie John Pearson, who is the brains behind the co-ordinated fancy dress day.
“I know a few of the last away day regulars are missing due to holidays and things but hopefully the Fancy Dress Brigade won’t be depleted too much.
“With it being St George’s Day the following day, it made sense for this year’s theme to tie in with that and no doubt there will be a focus on St George himself.
“Anyone who went to Tranmere last season could not have failed to enjoy the day, and the effort some fans went to with their face paint and costumes was brilliant.
“Hopefully this year’s game can be as colourful and as enjoyable for everyone as all the previous occasions and helps to send a positive message to the Club about the force they have behind them.
“Let’s hope this can be the start of Higgy’s Crusade!”
We can’t wait.
