Pools Youth Team face a pivotal weekend in their challenge for the Youth Alliance League title when they travel to face current leaders Doncaster Rovers on Saturday (11am kick-off).

Ian McGuckin’s men gave themselves renewed hope of landing the title with a 3-1 triumph over Notts County at Blackhall last week.

However, they know that they need at least a point from Saturday’s game against Rovers to keep themselves in the frame for silverware.

Pools are currently fourth in the table but only four points behind their weekend hosts but, after beating them 3-2 on home soil earlier in the season, they will make the trip in good spirits.

“We want to go there and try to win,” insisted McGuckin.

“We had a really good game first time round and we just about edged it on the day but we know we’re going to have to be at our best on Saturday, with and without the ball.

“The lads are going to have to put lots of hard work in to the performance and we’ll have to be tight defensively because Doncaster are a good team.

“But so are we and the pitch there is great so that will allow us to get the ball down and play a bit, which is what we’ll try to do when we can.

“We want to get on the front foot and really go toe-to-toe with them.”

Ian McGuckin has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the game; Aaron Willoughby took a knock in training earlier this week but is expected to be fine to feature.

The game takes place at Doncaster’s Cantley Park Training Ground and entry is free for all supporters.
