In Opposition
FC Halifax Town have emerged as one of the potential surprise packages of the National League during the opening weeks of the new campaign.

The Shaymen won five our their first seven games, leaving Chairman David Bosomworth to admit that Jamie Fullarton’s new-look squad were exceeding their own expectations.

However, three draws and a defeat since August turned to September have seen them fall outside the top seven though they can leapfrog back above Pools with victory this weekend.

Fullarton admitted his anger in the wake of Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Maidenhead United but they’ve taken 13 points from a possible 15 on their own patch this term so will look to bounce back against Pools.

Star Player
Dayle Southwell has come to the fore as one of Halifax’s main men this season having joined the club over the summer from relegated Guiseley.

A former Grimsby Town trainee, Southwell has already helped himself to four goals this season and they Shaymen are yet to taste defeat when the 24-year-old has been on the scoresheet.

Shaymen boss Jamie Fullarton has long been an admirer of the front man – whom he tried to sign as a teenager for Bolton Wanderers – and he’s one Pools will need to keep quiet on Saturday.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be the 125th competitive meeting between the two sides and Halifax have enjoyed the edge, winning 56 times in comparison to Pools’ 47 victories in the fixture.

Honours were even last term as both sides won on home territory, while Pools did the double over Town when they last met in league action back in 2001/02, clinching a play-off place with a 2-0 win at The Shay in April 2002.

Indeed, last season’s defeat at Halifax – which proved to be Craig Harrison’s last game in charge – was the first time The Shaymen had beaten Pools in eight attempts.

Referee
Daniel Middleton will take charge of his third Pools game this weekend when he’s the man in the middle for our trip to FC Halifax Town.

Last term he oversaw our 1-1 draw on home soil against Sutton United in October as well as our thrilling comeback to draw 3-3 at AFC Fylde in March.

Now in to his second season on the National League’s list of referees, Middleton’s most recent outing was on Tuesday when he was on duty for Boreham Wood’s 4-0 win at Sutton.
