Pools Youth Team will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to face Tranmere Rovers in their second group game of the League Cup (1pm kick-off).
Ian McGuckin’s youngsters suffered their first league defeat of the season last time out when they were beaten 2-0 at Grimsby Town.
Now he’s looking for the lads to show improvement when they return to cup action and get themselves up and running in the competition after losing to Scunthorpe United in their opening group fixture.
“We’re looking forward to getting back out there,” McGuckin admitted.
“We’ve had a look at Tranmere this week and done some work around that so we’re hoping for a positive performance and the result to go with it.
“It was disappointing at Grimsby last weekend; we lost our concentration for the first goal and the second one was sloppy too so we need to sharpen up defensively but also work on our end product.
“We did well in the League Cup last year so we want to build on that but, to be honest, we approach every game with the same enthusiasm and appetite because we want to do well in all competitions.”
McGuckin welcomes Jack Naylor back in to his squad after he recovered from a back injury but Brad Fox is a doubt to face Tranmere after picking up a hamstring strain.
The fixture will take place at The Campus on Leasowe Road in Wallasey and we’ll have a full report here on the Official Website on Monday.
