We turn our attentions to the weekend action with a full and in-depth preview of our National League trip to Damson Park.

Solihull Moors v Pools
National League
Saturday 8th September 2018, 3pm
Damson Park

In Opposition
Solihull Moors have enjoyed an encouraging start to the new campaign after steering clear of relegation trouble at the end of 2018/19.

Even the summer departure of boss Mark Yates doesn’t seem to have dented the momentum built up at Damson Park with Tim Flowers stepping up from assistant to maintain their fine form.

Pools will know they face a stiff task in trying to repeat their win at Solihull this weekend – The Moors are unbeaten on home soil this term and have tasted defeat just once in their last 17 outings there.

Under former England goalkeeper Flowers, Solihull have won five of their nine games so far this season to sit level on points with Pools ahead of Saturday’s intriguing encounter.

Star Player
Adi Yussuf scored the winner when the sides last met in April and the former Mansfield Town front man has hit the ground running in 2018/19.

Tanzania-born Yussuf has hit the net four times already this term, his power and pace causing problems for opposition defences both home and away.

One of the challenges that will face Pools this weekend is making sure that the 26-year-old does not extend his goal count further.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be only the third competitive meeting between the two sides with both having won one each of the previous two encounters.

Pools won in dramatic fashion on their last visit to Damson Park last October when a late Jonathan Franks’ goal won the game 2-1 after Darren Carter’s penalty had earlier wiped out Rhys Oates’ opener.

However, The Moors were deserved winners when they made the trip to The Vic in April though they had to wait until the 88th minute for Adi Yussuf’s decisive goal.

Referee
Richard Hulme will take charge of his fourth Pools game this weekend when he’s the man on the whistle for our visit to Solihull Moors.

Last term Hulme was the ref when we drew 1-1 at Woking in September but he also saw us thumped 4-0 at Dover Athletic in December and sent Carl Magnay off in our 4-3 loss at Eastleigh in January.

Now in to his second season in the National League, he has overseen four games so far this season with the most recent being Havant & Waterlooville’s 2-1 win over Aldershot Town on Wednesday.
