Pools Youth Team will play away from home for the first time this season on Saturday when they make the trip to face Grimsby Town in the Youth Alliance League (12noon kick-off).
After a superb 4-0 thumping of Huddersfield Town last time out, Ian McGuckin’s youngsters will be full of confidence as they approach the encounter against The Mariners this weekend.
Top of the table Pools are still unbeaten in the league so far this term having won twice and drawn their other game so McGuckin is looking to extend that sequence on Saturday.
“The lads have been in good spirits understandably,” McGuckin told us.
“We had an in-house game this week just to keep things ticking over but we’re top of the league – albeit after only three games – and we want to try and build on that.
“It’s our first away game so the environment will be different to what we have been used to in the first few weeks but we’re looking forward to it.
“One thing we know is that it will be tough – Grimsby had a great result in beating Bradford City 3-0 last week so it is going to be a challenge for us but it’s one we’re excited about.”
McGuckin has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from but looks set to be without Jack Naylor this weekend after he picked up a back injury.
The game takes place at Grimsby’s Cheapside Training Ground in Waltham and we’ll have a full report here on the Official Website on Monday.
