Matthew Bates says his side are determined to react positively to their weekend defeat when they make the trip to face third-placed Wrexham on Tuesday evening.

Pools slipped up 3-2 to Sutton United on home soil on Saturday but Bates has insisted that the players are ready to put that right in North Wales.

It was only the third defeat of the campaign so far and the Pools boss has revealed that spirits remain high in the camp as they prepare for the first of three successive away tests.

“It will be nice to get the disappointment of the result on Saturday out of the way,” Bates admitted.

“It doesn’t get any easier though; we knew that October was going to be a tough month when it started and Wrexham are unbeaten at home so we go there under no illusions.

“We’re still full of confidence though because overall we’ve had a good start to the season and our away record stands up with anyone in this league.

“We’ve been competitive in every game we’ve played this season and will need to be the same again tonight if we want to get something.”

“The lads are looking forward to it though – they want to try and get Saturday’s result out of their systems as soon as possible and this is a great opportunity to do that.”
