Ian McGuckin has called for a professional performance from his players as they begin their FA Youth Cup campaign against Hebburn Town at The Super 6 Stadium on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
The youngsters are aiming to bounce back from a weekend league defeat at Lincoln City when they host Hebburn on home soil and McGuckin says they will need to be on top of their game.
Pools will go in to the qualifying tie as firm favourites to make progress but there is no room for any kind of complacency according to the Youth Team boss.
“I am sure the lads are excited – and so they should be, this is a great competition to play in,” McGuckin explained.
“To get the chance to go out there and impress on the First Team pitch is a big deal for the lads so I just want every one of them to grasp that and give their all.
“I think with our lads being full-time and the stature of our Club we should be favourites but we’re not going to under-estimate Hebburn in any way – there is no place for complacency.
“We want to start the game well, stamp our authority on our opponents and impose ourselves with and without the ball – hard work will be needed and we want a good team performance too.”
Admission prices for the tie are just £2 for adults and £1 for concessions and McGuckin is hopeful that will help increase the numbers that turn up to support his team in action.
“It would be brilliant if the fans could come and get behind us,” he admitted.
“I know there is some football on the television but I just hope plenty come along and take the chance to see what our young players can do and give them that support.
“We saw what can happen when we picked up some momentum last year when we ended up hosting Liverpool so hopefully with some backing from the fans we can have a similar run this time.”
The game is being played at The Super 6 Stadium and kicks-off at 7.45pm.
