Pools Youth Team suffered their second Youth Alliance League defeat of the season as they went down 2-0 at Lincoln City on Saturday.

The game – played out on a difficult pitch at The Priory City of Lincoln Academy – looked to be heading towards stalemate after neither side was really able to take it by the scruff of the neck.

Few chances were created in testing conditions but with a draw seeming the likely outcome, it was the visitors who stole all three points with two quickfire goals twenty minutes from time.

Both goals came courtesy of lapses in concentration at the back with the first seeming to knock the stuffing out of Pools who then struggled to recover their composure and conceded a second soon after.

“There was nothing in the game up until those moments,” rued Ian McGuckin at the final whistle.

“I didn’t really see us winning it but at the same time I didn’t anticipate losing so it’s hard to take the way it all unfolded in the last twenty minutes.

“Once they scored we seemed to go in to panic mode for a little period and that was when we conceded again and once that happened the game was gone.”
