Hartlepool United v Barnet

We turn our attentions to Sunday’s action with a full and in-depth preview of Barnet’s visit to The Super 6 Stadium.

Pools v Barnet
National League
Sunday 18th November, 4.30pm
The Super 6 Stadium

In Opposition
Barnet find themselves back in the National League once more after being relegated from League Two despite winning 3-0 on a tense and ultimately devastating final day.

Their astonishing run of late season form wasn’t enough to save them and Martin Allen departed for Chesterfield in the aftermath, leaving Barnet to turn to another experienced boss in the shape of John Still.

The Bees emerged from a slow start to the new campaign to enjoy a run of five wins in a row during late August and in to September but they have been up and down since then.

However, they lie just three points behind Pools in the National League table and will consider themselves very much still in the chase for a play-off spot and an instant return to the EFL.

Star Player
Wesley Fonguck has been in great form for Barnet this season and has already hit the net six times from midfield, including four in three games at the beginning of last month.

Having come through the club’s Academy, he made his senior debut in May 2016 and has been in and around the action since but has really come to the fore this term.

Pools will need to make sure they keep him quiet on Sunday and win the midfield battle if they want to get back to winning ways in the National League.

Head To Head
Sunday’s game will be just the 23rd competitive meeting between the sides and Barnet have the slight edge having won nine games in comparison to Pools’ eight.

The Bees did the double over Pools last time they shared a division in 2016/17 and we haven’t enjoyed a home victory over them since a 6-1 thrashing in December 2000.

Last Meeting
Saturday 22nd April 2017
Pools 0 Barnet 2 (Akinde 66, Akinola 71)

Subs not used: McKenzie-Lyle, Santos, S Akinde.

Martin Woods returns to The Super 6 Stadium for a second time this season on Sunday when he’s the man in the middle for our meeting with Barnet.

The official was also on the whistle when we hosted Aldershot Town on home turf in September, whilst he was also the man to send-off Andrew Davies in our 1-0 defeat at Wrexham earlier this month.

Woods is in his first season on the National League’s list of referees and his most recent appointment saw him take charge at Chesterfield for their 1-1 FA Cup with Billericay last weekend.
