Pools Youth Team return to league action this weekend with a home game against Rotherham United at Welfare Park in Blackhall (12noon kick-off).

Ian McGuckin’s youngsters have not had a Youth Alliance League fixture in the last three weeks so will be hoping to make up for lost time when they host The Millers this weekend.

Pools have kept their fitness up with a couple of friendlies and they also travelled to take part in a youth tournament at St George’s Park last week where they reached the quarter-finals.

However, they’re now back focused on league action and the battle for points as second-placed Pools look to close the gap on leader Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

“We want to stay up near the top as long as possible,” admitted McGuckin.

“We’ve got a couple of games against Rotherham back to back now because we play them in the cup during the week as well so we’re aiming for two strong performances.

“We’ve not played in the league but the tournament last week was really good so hopefully that will help us hit the ground running on Saturday.”

McGuckin will be without Liam Pritchard who fractured his collarbone during the St George’s Park tournament, while Brook Miller is still sidelined with a hamstring problem and Brad Young is doubtful after picking up an ankle injury.

Kick-off at Welfare Park is 12noon and entry is free to all supporters.
