Carl Magnay’s outrageous winner at Barrow in March has been crowned as Pools’ Goal of the Season for 2017/18 following a supporters’ vote.
The skipper found the target with a long-range drive in the televised contest at Holker Street to land the Michael Maidens Trophy for the past campaign.
Magnay’s spectacular strike was the talk of the internet from the moment it hit the net with fans from various clubs taking to social media to praise the effort.
And those views have been backed up by a vote carried out among Pools supporters in recent weeks with Magnay enjoying a landslide win to claim the silverware.
Devante Rodney’s thunderbolt equaliser at AFC Fylde was voted as runner-up, while Blair Adams’ curling wonder-goal at Aldershot Town came third.
“I think the distance alone was probably what swung the vote,” laughed Magnay when he spoke to Pools PlayerHD after receiving his award.
“It was a bit of a speculative effort, I have to be honest about it, but really the significance of the goal was what made it more special for me.”
